Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) invoked first lady Jill Biden, a rare target for GOP attacks, during her speech at this week’s Republican convention.
Sanders, who briefly served as former President Trump’s press secretary, recounted taking her son to work one day while serving in the White House. She compared her experience to that of the first lady’s with President Biden.
Some conservatives have attacked Jill Biden and claimed she wants to hang onto power amid discussions about whether the president should remain atop the Democratic ticket.
Sanders’s speech was lauded even by those on the left as an uplifting and personal one, with Democratic strategist Van Jones saying the Arkansas governor gave “the speech of the night.”
Day 2 of the convention included speeches from many high-profile Republican figures — including Senate candidates, House leadership and former rivals of the former president and those who were on Trump’s VP shortlist.
